A great place in the Italian village for a great meal. We were impressed about the food, the atmosphere and the service. I would recommend that you try it out !
Had been there years ago (because we live out of town) and loved it, so we went back on Feb. 26 but...what a difference! The person at the front entrance was on the phone when we came in and we had to wait until she finished her phone call (3-4 min.) before she greeted us. Our waitress' attitude was that she was doing us a favour by serving us. The special was Stuffed squash and it was very bland. The chicken marsala was tasteless. The view we had from our table was a great big Scotiabank sign which could have been hidden by curtains to make the place more italian and less commercial. All in all, a bad experience and would not recommend this restaurant.
We regularly visit La Roma because the food is excellent, the service is great and the Atmosphere is terrific. They have the best Fettucini Alfredo I have ever had, mix it with any main course on the menu.
For a restaurant who is supposed to be among the best in Ottawa, it definitely needs improvement. The decor, cleanliness and service are very good. However, the food leaves a lot to be desired. There were eight of us and no one was pleased with our dish. One had ravioli that was absolutely disgusting (looked like Chef Boyardee); another had Fettucini Alfredo; another lemon chicken and I had that chicken/ham dish. All these dishes were lukewarm and completely tasteless. I ordered Bruschetta and for $6.00 i got 2 pieces of thick bread with tomatoes and basil and the other two pieces were covered with mushrooms and onions (not a very attractive dish). That is twice in 10 days I was served food I would rather give to someone I don't like. I don't know what happened because I used to go to La Roma quite often and everything was always perfect.
I have to say that this is the best lasagna that I have eaten so far (except for my boyfriend's lasagna of course!). I always take the lasagna and it never dissapoints. The sauce is unbelivable! Almost every time I went there, me and my mom had Ria as a waitress. She is the best waitress!! And she recognizes us every time :)

The menu at La Roma changes based on what is available from local farmers, making it seasonal – of course – but also fresh and inventive. Come and start with shrimp or deep-fried lake smelts with oregano. They've got a dozen different pastas as well as six delicious variations on veal, including the standout veal scaloppine with cremini mushrooms. The corkage fee here is $20, but is waived on Thursdays.

Homemade pasta, sauces and dips are complemented by fresh ingredients sourced from local farms. Enjoy mouthwatering primi like zucchini fritters, or a delicious, rarely seen dish: deep-fried lake smelt with oregano, black olives and spicy crushed chilies. Then gear up for a secondi like the fazzoletti pasta featuring nothing less than ricotta cheese, spinach, tomato béchamel sauce, mozzarella and Parmesan.
