"I can teach anyone to wait on a table, but my real aim is to teach them to do it with a smile," says Alexandra Hermandez of Mariachi’s restaurant. "If I achieve this, I feel I have done my job."
Alexandra has been managing the family restaurant with her 80-something-year-old mom as partner, since 1999. She says one of the biggest challenges they faced when they opened was getting people to understand that a taco is meant to be eaten with hands! Serving food to the traditional high level of spiciness was also tricky. "At first, we couldn't make the food authentic because it didn’t go with local palates," she says with a smile. "Now we can, but in the early days we had to tone it down." However, they still take care of more sensitive mouths. So much so that rather than having to ask if you want your meal milder than usual, you only need to put in a request if you want your food extra spicy. Alexandra will happily oblige.

I enjoy the authentic Mexican atmosphere. The food is very good, highly recommend the guacamole dip.
We came here back in September for a friend's birthday. Despite the questionable reviews, we wanted to try it anyway, as we were in the mood for Mexican food. The service was really good, our food was hot, fresh and flavourful. The ambiance very warm and soothing. We were very satisfied with our night here, and will return again.
Authentic Mexican food! Delish!
We have always had a great time at this restaurant. It is small, family owned and very enjoyable. The service is excellent and the food is great. Best guacamole and lime margarita's ever.
Was really looking forward to eating here had heard great things and read the previous reviews. The service was good and the atmosphere was great, they did a really nice job with renovations. The food unfortunatly was a joke, we love Mexican food and were very dissapointed, the portions were very small, we both had the burrito and Chimichanga combos, we were still hungry when we were finished and it tasted very dry and somewhat processed, so not very athentic....... Needless to say we will not be going back or recomending it to anyone that has a love for Mexican food.
Delicious authentic mexican food. A really nice vibe and friendly staff. Low key decor actually reminds me of when I visited Mexico and ate at a local restaurant. The food is fresh and tastes home made and very good. Tortilla chips as appetizers are tasty.
Fantastic food and service! My family always choose Mariachi's when we are in the area and are never disappointed. We highly recommend it to everyone.
I will start by saying that i love mexican food. i have eaten authentic mexican food in mexico, LA, and now toronto, the food at this restaurant is delicious and truly mexican. it is not the nicest restaurant in town but it has a very mexican feels to it despite what one of the reviewers here has said, the restaurant is dark and the patio has platic chairs but that atmosphere lends itself to the feel of the restaurant. the enchiladas are by far my favorite thing on the menu with a variety of sauces to compliment the fantastic chorizo sausage. if you like mexican food go to this restaurant, you will not regret it!!
Amazing Mexican food, authentic vibe as well.. must eat there again, service is local and friendly
The real deal. Authentic mexican dishes, not "tex mex". I go there often, and it is consistently good.
super great food. great atmosphere. great service. great guacamole. reasonable prices.

Cold cerveza served with chips and guac is truly one of life’s pleasures. If a trip to Mexico (or just a plate of sizzling fajitas with a dollop of sour cream) is on your mind, this midtown classic has been serving traditional Mexican fare since the late 90s. Mariachi’s is known for its unique dishes made with bursting-with-flavour ingredients – think spicy chipotle and tequila sauce and green tomatillo sauce with sautéed cactus.
